Jarrettsville is a rural town located in northwestern Harford County.  It shares a border to the northeast with the community of Pylesville.  Located to the east is the community of Street and the City of Bel Air.  Jarrettsville shares a border to the west with the community of White Hall.  Located to the south is the community of Baldwin and the community of Phoenix.

The area was originally called Carmon. Most believe that The town was named for the Jarrett family, who farmed the area during the 1800’s.  They were one of the first pioneer families of the United States.  In 1771, Abraham Jarrett was given 2,380 acres of land near the falling branch area.  He used it to produce hogshead barrels, which were used mostly to transport tobacco. Abraham Jarrett purchased other areas in and around the Jarrettsville area.  He married Martha Bussey and had 7 children.  Some believe that the community was named for the grandson of Abraham Jarrett, Luther M. Jarrett,  He was a state delegate and farmer.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Jarrettsville has a total area of 8.6 square miles.  Of that area, only 0.03 square miles is water.
