Galesville is a town located in Anne Arundel County.  It shares a border to the north with the community of Harwood.  Located to the east across the West River is the community of Shady Side.  Galesville shares a border to the west with the community of West River and the community of Lothian.  Located to the south is the community of Churchton.

Galesville is located along the western shore of the West River, which is an arm of the Chesapeake Bay.  The area was an early center of Quaker settlement in America.  Through the West River Friends meeting, it is considered the birthplace of organized Quakerism in Maryland.  The town was once one end of a steamship line connecting to Annapolis and Baltimore.  Galesville was once a thriving community of Chesapeake Bay watermen and their families.  The town developed an industry around pleasure boating.
