Woodsboro is a town located in Frederick County. It shares a border to the north with the community of Rocky Ridge. Located to the east is the community of Union Bridge. Woodsboro shares a border to the south is the community of Libertytown and the community of Walkersville. Located to the west of Woodsboro is the Cunningham Falls State Park, Cat Rock & Bobs Hill Natural Area and the Frederick Municipal Forest.
The area of Woodsboro was granted to and the town was named for Joseph Wood in 1693. In 1895, Dr. George F. Smith founded Rosebud Perfume Company in Woodsboro. Smith had eight children. He served as mayor of the town for 19 years. The business remained in the family and is still producing its famous “Smith’s Rosebud Salve.” It is a lip gloss and salve that was originally known as tholene. The products are shipped from the company’s headquarters in Woodsboro. The salve is manufactured and filled, though, at Case Mason in the community of Joppa. The tins are made in Baltimore.
The LeGore Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and Woods Mill Farm was listed in 2007. In addition, the Woodsboro Savings Bank, and several buildings associated with the three limestone quarries near the town are among the structures that have been considered for historic preservation. According to the United States Census Bureau, Woodsboro has a total area of 0.71 square miles. All of that area is land.
