Big Pool is an unincorporated community in western Washington County. It is located between the community of Clear Spring and the Town of Hancock. The community is officially a part of the Hagerstown Metropolitan Area. Big Pool covers a total of 0.1 square mile and all of that area is land. The community’s elevation is 430 feet.
To the south of Big Pool lies Fort Frederick State Park. It is a restored fort that was used during the French and Indian War. Also nearby is the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. The park is located near Fort Frederick alongside the Potomac River.
Big Pool is also the name of a large body of water which is part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. This pool is located roughly at the 113-mile marker. It is on what the canallers called the 14-mile level. A very famous musical artist also is said to have a small getaway cabin home that he uses as a place to write music in private.
