Learn About Faulkner, Maryland
Faulkner is a rural community in Charles County. It borders Bel Alton to the north and Newburg to the south.
Faulkner is home to the Loyola Roman Catholic Retreat Center. The surrounding area is historically significant as the location where John Wilkes Booth, aided by Thomas A. Jones of nearby Huckleberry Farm, crossed the Potomac River into Virginia roughly a week after assassinating President Abraham Lincoln.
Originally known as Lothair, the community was later renamed in honor of a local resident. Notable landmarks in Faulkner include Mount Air, a Federal-style house listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and Timber Neck Farm, which was added to the register in 1979.
