Learn About Hunt Valley, Maryland

Hunt Valley, MD 21031 Hunt Valley is a community in Baltimore County, located just north of the City of Baltimore.  It borders Cockeysville to the south, Phoenix to the east, and Sparks Glencoe to the north.  To the west, it is adjacent to Reisterstown and Owings Mills, and it is also near Timonium.

A key nearby landmark is the Loch Raven Reservoir, an important drinking water source for the Baltimore region.  The surrounding forested watershed is one of three major reservoir systems developed for the city.

Hunt Valley is served by the Cockeysville Post Office and is home to a satellite campus of the Community College of Baltimore County.

Hunt Valley’s name and early identity come from it’s proximity to Maryland Hunt Cup steeplechase racing that was established in 1894 and its location just east of traditional “horse country” in northern Baltimore County.  This gives the area a blend of equestrian heritage and suburban development, which is still visible today in nearby estates and open land.

The community’s primary commercial hub is the Hunt Valley Towne Centre.  Originally opened as Hunt Valley Mall in 1981, it was redeveloped into its current open-air format in 2005.  The site was once part of an estate owned by the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Maryland, and before that, it belonged to the Merryman family estate known as “Bonnie Blink.”
