Lusby is a community located near the southern end of Calvert County.  To the north are the Town of St. Leonard and the community of Broomes Island, while Solomons borders Lusby to the southwest.  Lusby shares its southeastern border with Chesapeake Ranch Estates, a large residential community governed by a homeowners’ association, and borders Drum Point to the south, located across tidal Mill Creek.

Much of Lusby maintains a somewhat rural character.  The community is geographically framed by the Chesapeake Bay to the east and the Patuxent River to the west.  According to the United States Census Bureau, Lusby encompasses a total area of approximately 3.7 square miles, of which 3.5 square miles is land and 0.15 square miles is water.

One of the nation’s largest liquefied natural gas import facilities, Dominion Cove Point LNG, is located in the northeastern part of Lusby.  The Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant is situated approximately five miles north of Lusby’s central business district.

Maryland Route 2/4 runs along the western edge of Lusby, providing direct access south to the Naval Air Systems Command (Patuxent River)  and north toward Joint Base Andrews.  This route also offers convenient access to City of Washington, DC and the City of Annapolis.

Lusby is home to Patuxent High School, as well as one middle school and three elementary schools.  The community’s central business district has experienced significant growth in recent years, with the development of three shopping centers that include grocery stores, restaurants, and a variety of other businesses.

Several new roads have been completed or are in the planning stages to help ease traffic congestion, particularly for residents traveling to and from Chesapeake Ranch Estates and Drum Point.

Lusby features Cove Point Park, which includes baseball, soccer, and lacrosse fields, as well as a public swimming pool.  The Chesapeake Hills Golf Course, a public golf course, is located nearby.  A private airfield owned and operated by the Chesapeake Ranch Estates and Drum Point communities is also located in Lusby.

One of Lusby’s notable landmarks is the Cove Point Lighthouse, located along the Chesapeake Bay. The lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.  Calvert Cliffs State Park is located just north of Lusby and provides additional recreational and natural attractions.
