Marbury is a relatively small community in Charles County, Maryland. The Marbury, MD 20658 zip code is actually surrounded by the Indian Head, MD 20640 zip code. It is located about 6 miles to the east of the Incorporated Town of Indian Head. Marbury is somewhat rural with relatively few homes sitting on large lots. The majority of homes in the area are located in Indian Head.
Marbury was the point where the tornado of April 28, 2002 first touched down. The tornado then traveled east and ultimately demolished much of the Incorporated Town of La Plata.
Smallwood State Park is located in the nearby community of Rison. It is named for William Smallwood. The park contains Smallwood’s Retreat, the Sweden Point Marina, and an art gallery. Smallwood State Park has hosted numerous fishing tournaments, including events in the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society’s Bassmasters series. Marbury is also the home of Gale-Bailey Elementary School.
