Learn About Ridge, Maryland
Ridge is a rural community located in the southernmost tip of the western shore of Maryland in St. Mary’s County. There are also two popular seafood restaurants. Bard’s Field was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Ridge shares a border with the community of Scotland to the south. It shares a border to the north with the community of Dameron and the community of St. Inigoes.
The area is generally known as Point Lookout and has bodies of water on both sides. Located at the very tip of the land is Point Lookout State Park. This is where the Potomac River empties into the Chesapeake Bay. The Oblate Sisters of Providence is an African American order of Catholic Nuns. They maintained a convent associated with St. Peter Clavers Catholic Church. They worked with the local African American Catholic community in the first half of the 20th century. They also helped to run a local Catholic High school.
