This home was going through the foreclosure process with a large bank.  We were hired to handle the maintenance and potential resale or rental of the home.  We determined that there were people living in the home during our initial inspection.  Usually, when a property is supposed to be vacant, but turns out to be occupied, it is because squatters have moved into the home.  We were able to determine, though, that the occupants had been scammed into a fraudulent lease.  They answered a rental advertisement that they found on Craigslist.

Working in conjunction with the foreclosing bank, we were able to negotiate a “cash for keys” deal with the occupants.  The bank essentially gave them the money that they lost in the fraudulent lease in exchange for leaving the property undamaged.
