Stevensville is a community in Queen Anne’s County, located on the state’s Eastern Shore. It is the county’s most populous community and serves as the eastern terminus of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The Stevensville Historic District is one of only two registered historic districts in the county, the other being the Centreville Historic District.
Founded in 1850 as a steamboat terminal, Stevensville has a rich history that is reflected in its Historic District, which contains approximately 100 historic structures dating to the town’s early years. Many of these buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including Christ Church, the Cray House, Friendship, Legg’s Dependence, Mattapax, and the Stevensville Bank.
On July 24, 2017, an EF2 tornado struck Stevensville, causing damage to homes, trees, and power lines and resulting in one injury. According to the United States Census Bureau, Stevensville encompasses a total area of 6.1 square miles, all of which is land. The community experiences a climate characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters.
