Expenses for Our Agents
There are expenses that agents must endure to operate their business. Some are optional, while others are mandatory for legally and effectively practicing real estate.
Optional Expenses
These items are not required but can help enhance your professional image and marketing efforts:
- Business Cards (approx. $100): While digital tools like QR codes and cell phones are sufficient, business cards remain a simple way to promote yourself.
- Car Magnetic Signs (approx. $100): Optional, but can help market yourself as an established business professional.
Mandatory Expenses
These costs are required to operate as a licensed agent:
- Errors & Omissions Insurance: Essential for protecting your business. Our company maintains a blanket policy, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to you.
- Board Dues (approx. $850/year): Membership in local, state, and national Realtor associations is required for most agents.
- Cell Phone with Data Plan & Personal Hot Spot: Required for communication, scheduling, and on-the-go business operations.
- Internet Access: Our office does not provide Wi-Fi, so agents need personal internet access at home or via mobile hotspot.
Other Agent Resources
- Desk Fees & Transaction Fees: We do not charge desk fees or transaction fees for processing paperwork, allowing you to retain more of your earnings.
- Agent Website: Each agent receives a personalized page on our company website. Agents provide input for their page copy. Any additional web presence or social media accounts must receive Broker approval.
Real Estate Referral Agent Program
We’ve expanded our Nationwide Referral Network to include a Real Estate Referral Agent program It is a perfect solution for licensed agents who want to minimize expenses while staying active in the industry. Through this program:
- Agents can change their license status with the Maryland Real Estate Commission (MREC) to INACTIVE and “hang” their license with us.
- Agents avoid annual board dues, MLS subscription costs, and other overhead.
- Agents must maintain their license and complete all required Continuing Education.
Referral agents can earn 25% of the commission for any completed transaction by referring friends, family, coworkers, and acquaintances to our active agents. This program allows agents to stay connected, earn income, and reduce costs—all without managing a full production real estate business.
