Coltons Point is a rural community in St. Mary’s County, commonly known as the county’s “Seventh District.” It borders the communities of Avenue and Abell to the north and is surrounded by water on three sides. St. Clements Bay is located to the west and the Potomac River is to the south and east.
The community is home to a small historical museum, a lighthouse, two marinas, and a beach. Seasonal boat service occasionally transports visitors to nearby St. Clement’s Island, an uninhabited island of great historical significance. In 1634, the first European settlers to arrive in Maryland landed there and celebrated the first Catholic Mass in English-speaking North America.
