Abell is a rural community located in St. Mary’s County. It is known as the “Seventh District” of St. Mary’s County. It shares a border with the community of Avenue to the west and St. Clements Bay to the east. To the north is the community of Clements and to the south is the community of Coltons Point.
Abell was a brewing ground for many fishermen and farmers in the late 19th century and until the late 1950s. Abell was known for its many major ports and for its deep-water access. This made it easy for large steamboats to maneuver. Many of the ports have been demolished due to storms and hurricanes. Today, some local fishermen still live in the same area where they were raised. Abell is also known for its century-old homes and views of the St. Clements Bay.
