Learn About Coltons Point, Maryland
Coltons Point is a rural community located in St. Mary’s County. It is commonly known as the “Seventh District” of St. Mary’s County. It shares a border with the community of Avenue and the community of Abell to the north. Coltons Point is surrounded on three sides by water. There is St. Clements Bay to the West and the Potomac River to the south and east.
The community contains a small historical museum and a lighthouse. There are also two marinas and a beach. Seasonal boat service at times carries visitors a short distance to the uninhabited St. Clement’s Island. This is where in 1634 the first European settlers arriving in Maryland landed. They celebrated the first Catholic Mass in English-speaking North America.
