Abingdon was named after the City of Abingdon, England. The town was founded by and is the birthplace of William Paca. He was signer of the Declaration of Independence and Maryland’s third Governor. Abingdon was the site of Cokesbury College. It was the first Methodist college in the United States. The community of Abingdon is served by the Harford County Board of Education.
