Learn About Bushwood, Maryland
Bushwood is a rural community in what is familiarly called the “Seventh District” of St. Mary’s County, Maryland. It shares a border with the community of Clements to the northeast. Located to the south is the community of Avenue and the community of Abell. Bushwood is located along the Wicomico River and Charles County to the west.
Ocean Hall is a historic house located in Bushwood. The house is believed to have been built in 1703. There were several alterations made to the initial structure in the early 18th, late 19th and early 20th centuries. These included the addition of the exterior porches. The Flemish bond brick exterior walls are the only parts of the original house that still remain.
It is believed that when the interior was rebuilt in about 1725, the floor plan configuration was a hall and parlor, a two-room plan typical of this region throughout the early 18th century. Decorative details of this style include paneling, molded chair-rails, and a Federal mantel.
