Helen is a community in St. Mary’s County.  It is located in the northern part of the County.  Helen shares a border with the community of Mechanicsville to the north.  The community of Chaptico is located to the west and the County Seat of Leonardtown is to located the south.  Margaret Brent Middle School is located in Helen.

Helen was the home town of French Forrest.  He was born in 1796.  Forrest was an American naval officer who served first in the United States Navy and later the Confederate States Navy.  Forrest returned to Washington after the Civil War to find that his property there had been seized.  He died in Georgetown on December 22, 1866.
