Scotland is a small settlement located in St. Mary’s County. It is near the southern most end of the state. The community is on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay to the East. To the West is the Potomac River. Scotland is located nearby the town of Ridge to the North.
There is a summer camp operated by the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, DC and the Greater Washington Area Boys and Girls Club. It is the former site of a Civil War prison camp, and is now the Point Lookout Confederate Cemetery and Point Lookout State Park.
Scotland is the birthplace and childhood home of Orlando “Tubby” Smith. He was the men’s basketball coach of the High Point University. He was also a former coach at the University of Memphis, Texas Tech University, the University of Minnesota and the University of Kentucky.
