Charlotte Hall is a somewhat rural community. It is located partly in Charles County and partly in St. Mary’s County. Charlotte Hall is home to the Maryland Veterans Home for disabled veterans. The site includes a U.S. Veterans Affairs clinic. The facility is located on the site of the former Charlotte Hall Military Academy. In 1975, it was declared the Charlotte Hall Historic District. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Since 1940, there has been a large Amish farming community in the area. There is also a farmers’ market and large flea market complex. Charlotte Hall is bordered by the community of Mechanicsville and the community of Hughesville. According to the United States Census Bureau, Charlotte Hall has a total area of 5.1 square miles. All of Charlotte Hall is land.
