Rental Properties in Maryland?
As of December 10, 2025, Maryland law does not require residential property managers to be licensed. We believe that the Maryland Real Estate Commission (MREC) would like to change this to better protect consumers. Any change in this requirement would need to be introduced in the Maryland General Assembly, and we hope to see legislation proposed again during the 2026 session. This type of bill has historically faced opposition, primarily, to our understanding, from legislators who are also property managers.

Why Licensing Matters
We strongly believe that requiring property managers to be licensed and supervised by the MREC is in the best interest of consumers. DMS Properties, LLC Residential Real Estate Services is a full-service real estate brokerage. All Maryland real estate agents must complete a minimum of 15 hours of Continuing Education (CE) every two-year licensing cycle. This requirement ensures that we remain knowledgeable about state and local laws, which in turn helps us manage your property more effectively. We have extensive experience in the Maryland real estate market and are well-versed in landlord-tenant issues.
