In the United States, Father’s Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd. It is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June. The first celebration was in 1910. The holiday is one of several similar celebrations that honor family members. Those include Mother’s Day in May, Siblings Day, and Grandparents’ Day.
Many families typically gather together to celebrate. They honor the father figures in their lives. In recent years, retailers have adapted to the holiday. They started promoting greeting cards and gifts such as electronics and tools. Schools (if in session) and other children’s programs commonly have activities to make Father’s Day gifts.
